Mobile & Flash Incapable Device Support

ChurchMilitant.TV is pleased to be able to offer a number of different options for people using mobile devices to watch videos on our site. Please take a few moments to read this short description of the various features we have available, so you can best choose which one to use.

Most people will access the site from a regular computer (desktop or laptop, PC or Apple Mac) or from a large, static device (such as a Nintendo Wii or other gaming console with internet capabilities) which is Flash capable (that is; it can run the graphics driver program “Flash” - most computers can do this, although you may need to install Flash on your machine). The main site is designed to be used in such situations; it uses Flash to display the videos and has an attractive, easy-to-read layout with graphics.

To access the main, regular site, simply log in as normal. The main site has graphics and there is a small logo of an apple in the upper right corner. This logo will be gray rather than brightly colored – this shows you do NOT have the Quicktime option enabled.

For people using a device with a fairly large screen which is Flash incapable (such as an iPad, although NOT a regular Apple desktop or laptop, which are Flash capable) the Quicktime option on the main site should be enabled. Quicktime is an alternative method of displaying video; mobile devices produced by Apple (such as iPads, iPods and other things beginning with i) are Flash incapable, but can run Quicktime.

To enable the Quicktime option, log into the main site and click the gray apple logo in the top-right corner. The apple logo will become brightly colored (showing the Quicktime option is enabled) and the videos will play using Quicktime. It is possible some of the videos will NOT have a Quicktime version, although most do and we are working to ensure all videos will play using this format.

Using the main site with the Quicktime option enabled is recommended for Flash incapable devices which have a good connection to the internet, a full web-browser and a fairly large screen. In practice, this is the iPad (and static devices which are Flash incapable), although this option does work on iPhones but the small screen size can cause a problem.

To disable the Quicktime option and return to the normal Flash site, simply click the brightly colored apple logo.

For those people wishing to use a Flash incapable device with a small screen (such as an iPhone or iPod) the mobile version of the site is recommended. This version has limited graphics and plain text with limited and straightforward formatting; this makes it quicker to load (saving bandwidth and time) and also easier to navigate on the smaller screens of mobile 'phones. Videos are displayed using the Quicktime format (some 'phones with very basic internet access – such as some editions of the Blackberry – will play the audio of the files, but not the video – and iPhones will play the video).

To access the mobile version of the site, log into the main site and click the mobile 'phone icon in the top right corner of the site. You can also (on the login screen) click the “mobile login” link under the login button, or point your browser directly at http://www.ChurchMilitant.TV/mobile for a simpler login screen which will take you directly to the mobile site.

You can navigate to different versions of the site by using the links near the top of the mobile site.

If you wish to use a Flash capable mobile device (such as versions of the Android 'phone) to access the site, or you are using a screen reader for the visually impaired (a piece of software which reads text on a webpage aloud) you should use the SimpleText version of the site. This plays the videos using Flash, but has no graphics and limited formatting, making it much easier for screen readers to process. Because of the simplicity of the layout, this version also loads faster on mobile devices.

To access this version, click the “ST” logo in the top right corner of the main site, or navigate to it from the mobile site using the link near the top. You can navigate from the SimpleText site to other versions by using the links near the top of the screen, or point your browser directly at http://www.ChurchMilitant.TV/simpletext for a simpler login screen which will take you directly to the mobile site.

These various options may seem complicated, but they will give you access to the site using a wide variety of devices and systems. The following quick guide should help you choose the version of the site you need;

If using a regular computer (PC or Mac, laptop or desktop) use the regular, main site; you can tell you are there because it has graphics and the apple in the corner is gray. If you want to get back to this version, click the link for the normal Flash version of the site, or click the brightly colored apple logo. Click here to go directly.

If using a Flash incapable device with a reasonably large screen (such as an iPad) use the Quicktime enabled main site; you can tell you are there because the site has graphics and the apple in the corner is brightly colored. To get there, log into the main site and click the gray apple in the corner or – from the mobile or SimpleText versions – click the normal Quicktime link. Click here to go directly.

If using a Flash incapable mobile device (such as an iPhone, iPod, Blackberry, or most mobile 'phones) use the mobile version of the site; you can tell you are there by the pure text look of it and the fact it says where you are right at the top. Once you have selected a version of the site, your device will remember your choice (if you have cookies enabled) and return you to that version when you return to the site with that device. You can always change your preference by going to a different version of the site.
